Dr. Joel Spear, 54, has been named chief medical officer at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital ¿ Chicago. He will serve as liaison between the medical staff and administration at the hospital. He will play a leadership role in quality and patient safety initiatives, preparation for accreditation, development of clinical programs and clinical integration. He will continue to have a role in overseeing PSJHC's graduate medical education programs. Spear joined the medical staff in 1990, and served as director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program until 2009 when he became chairman of the Department of Medicine. He graduated from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and completed his residency at Evanston Hospital. In addition, he completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center.
