The first part of a flurry of winter activity in 2010 involving Sara Lee was the sale of its body care brands (including Radox shower gel, above) to Unilever, the consumer goods giant based in London which makes products like Ben & Jerry's ice cream and Dove soap. Sara Lee completed the $1.6 billion sale on Dec. 6. Unilever's acquisitions of Sara Lee units didn't end there. In December, Kenya granted Unilever approval to buy Sara Lee's subsidiary in the east African nation. The subsidiary, Sara Lee Kenya Ltd., marketed shoe care products, including polishes, cleaners, and wax under Sara Lee's well-known Kiwi brand, and insecticides under the company's Ridsect brand.
