Carillon North Book Club
Our book club:
was established 10 years ago in the Carillon North community of Grayslake. Our group is made up of men and women.
The Grayslake Area Public Library:
helps us locate books from our reading list and makes them available for our use.
are usually an hour long, and we tend to laugh a lot. Since we're part of an active senior community, we stick to talking about the book and leave the politics and family discussions to other times.
Books we loved:
"A Thousand Splendid Suns," by Khaled Hosseini; "Rocket Boys," by Homer H. Hickam Jr.; and "An Irish Country Doctor," by Patrick Taylor.
We didn't like:
"The Unnamed," by Joshua Ferris, because there was no resolution to the main character's problem. The last three pages gave us some insight into the author's idea of death, and most members felt that it was the best part of the book.
Our discussion on:
"The Glass Castle," by Jeanette Walls, continued during other social events long after our book club meeting was over.

Relin; and "Middlesex," by
