We are from the Long Grove/Buffalo Grove area, and the core group has been meeting over 30 years.
Our discussions, led by a professional reviewer, are always interesting. Providing background knowledge and steering discussion questions originate with the reviewer. The diverse titles chosen give everyone an opportunity to read outside their comfort zone from time to time.
Our favorite books include "The Glass Room," by Simon Mawer; "The Elegance of the Hedgehog," by Muriel Barbery; "The Hungry Tide," by Amitav Ghosh; "Atonement," by Ian McEwan; and "House of Sand and Fog," by Andre Dubus III.
We found "The Hungry Tide" to be a stirring adventure set in a fascinating place, the Sundarban islands in the Bay of Bengal off eastern India.
Authors we'd most like to meet: Philip Roth, Richard Russo, Lois Lowry.
We agree on the titles beforehand, so there is no excuse for not reading the book!
We are an extremely focused group, and the professional leader keeps the discussion appropriately steered on the material for 90 minutes.
