After the player introductions, I spent most of my time either in the merchandise room or in the games room, a giant space set up primarily for young Cubs fans who could take batting practice, run bases or play "MLB ¿13: The Show" on one of countless TVs. At one point, outfielder Dave Sappelt hung out in his jersey to challenge fans in the Derby. Did anyone beat him? "No," he laughed. "I'm unbeatable in video games. Unbeatable. There was one guy who got close, but I think I let him get close. It's all about having fun." Maintaining his "unbeatable" status is no small feat for a man who, by his own estimation, had already signed "probably 3,000" autographs, leaving him with sore wrists during his video game showdowns. Good to know he'll play through pain.
