'Snow Much Fun' at the Children's Museum

Squeals of excitement filled the Chicago Children's Museum Dec. 11 for its second annual Family Snow Ball at Navy Pier. More than 300 people celebrated this seasonally themed fundraiser co-chaired by Pam Gordon, Stacy Jakobe, Mary Newburn and Kelly Turula.

The shoes came off for the sock skating rink as young children waited their turns. In the "Snow Much Fun" exhibit, "snow" fort building was a favorite activity for some while others enjoyed creating candy snowmen and crystal painting. Snowball "fights" offered frosty fun.

The museum's three levels were filled with activities and offered kid-friendly food. Young guests climbed on a ship, hid in treehouses, constructed buildings and created art to take home.

DJ Lester Paliano kept the mood lively as families sat for photos beside snowmen, explored the Treehouse Trails, "excavated" dinosaurs and enjoyed the award-winning new exhibit, "Move," which incorporates tires and other climbing devices.

Michael's Museum, donated by longtime toy collector Michael Horvich, was a popular attraction. Children were awed by its thousands of miniature wonders as Horvich gave tours.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will support the museum's educational programming, exhibits and community access efforts.
