Sarah Skibitzke admired Bryan Donnell’s work long before she fell in love with him. It was back when they were getting MFAs in film production at the University of Southern California.
“I had seen films shot by Bryan, one of which was ‘Bean Cake,’ which won the Palme D’Or at Cannes in 2001, and I was really impressed,” Skibitzke, 39, said.
But because Donnell, 43, was further along in the program, they didn’t meet face-to-face until years later, when Skibitzke, an Emmy award-winning producer was looking to hire a cinematographer.
“I called a mutual friend and asked about ‘that guy that shot those beautiful films.’ When Bryan showed up at my office, I took one look at him and knew he had the job — and the girl,” she admitted. “After six years, four TV shows and two Emmy nominations together, we were married,” she said.
That wedding took place on Dec 23, 2011. Eighty guests attended the ceremony held at the Church of the Angels in Pasadena. The bride made her entrance to Etta James’ “At Last” sung by her best friend, and the couple’s dog, Trixie the Bear, was the first to congratulate them upon exiting the church. A Moroccan-themed reception at Downtown’s Hotel Figueroa followed. The newlyweds honeymooned in Portugal and Spain before returning to their home in Tujunga.
