Denis Slattery

Denis Slattery joined the New York Daily News Bronx Bureau in December 2012. He has covered a variety of beats including criminal justice, politics, and housing issues since he began covering the borough. Slattery, who also reports for the paper's city desk, has covered breaking stories such as the Occupy Wall Street protests and the Empire State Building shooting. Perhaps the biggest story he has covered for the News was the Newtown school shooting. He was one of the first members of the press to arrive in the small town after the horrific incident. After a year of working the streets for the paper's main city desk, Slattery was reassigned to the Bronx, the borough where his grandparents first settled after immigrating to the U.S. A fixture at many local community board meetings, Slattery prides himself on his Bronx roots and his familiarity with the diverse neighborhoods of the borough.
