Cyrus Chestnut, the Baltimore-born jazz pianist, is bringing his hard-swinging, gospel-influenced style to Hampton University tonight.
He's a dynamic player and one with local ties. Chestnut contributed to at least three albums by local jazz drummer Jae Sinnett: 1992's "Blue Jae," 1994's "House and Sinnett," and 1996's "Listen."
He's been recording under his own name at least since 1992 and released a string of discs on the Atlantic label through the 1990s.
He performs 8 p.m. at Hampton University's Ogden Hall. Tickets are $25, $25 for students.
