Jim Thompson strokes and talks to a dolphin stranded Wednesday in Brights Creek off the Hampton River near King Street in Hampton. The female bottlenose dolphin, about 6 feet long and weighing approximately 300 lbs., swam up to two divers from the Hampton Fire Division dive team about 15 feet from shore, according to Capt. Rick Rickett. Vet technicians with the Virginia Marine Science Museum examined the dolphin and found her to be in poor health. The dolphin, named "Isabel," was given a tranquilizer to calm her. She had to be euthanized on site.
