Dominion Virginia Power is considering building an electric transmission line that would cross the James River at
The line would originate at Surry nuclear power station, run above the river along nine towers between 150 feet and 295 feet tall, and terminate at a substation in James City.
It is an alternative to a route Dominion announced in December that would snake up James City to a substation in Chickahominy.
The proposal drew the ire of James City officials who are concerned that it will affect Freedom Park, which includes a Revolutionary War battle site. It also upset the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association, which built and maintains trails in the park.
