Hampton Roads celebrates the holidays in a big way with concerts, theater performances and other programs that appeal to a variety of ages and pocketbooks.
There's no shortage of the perennial favorites that families never seem to tire of. The Virginia Stage Company in Norfolk is bringing back its popular production of "A Christmas Carol," and a new version of the Dickens classic stops at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News.
Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" is well represented as well, with performances in Williamsburg, Hampton, Virginia Beach and Suffolk. And Rainbow Puppet Productions is presenting "The Night Before Christmas" featuring the voice of legendary performer Mickey Rooney.
Three of the Peninsula's performing venues, the Ferguson Center, the Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg and The American Theatre in Hampton, are top-heavy with outstanding holiday shows. Country stars Travis Tritt and Sandi Patty, smooth jazz favorite Dave Koz, Broadway star Andrea McArdle and world music artists Danu and The Romeros all are celebrating the season.
And don't forget the excellent lineup of locally based artists including the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Choral Society, Virginia Choral Guild and Williamsburg Women's Chorus.
