A public hearing will be held by staff from the Virginia Department of Transportation and Gloucester County on Thursday to address congestion and safety along the Route 17 Business/Main Street corridor.
Comments at the meeting will be used in conjunction with an analysis of the traffic congestion and its causes to develop solutions, said a VDOT spokeswoman. Those potential solutions could include accommodations for pedestrians and even bike lanes.
The study area includes a 2 1/2-mile section of road stretching from the north and south intersections of the Route 17 Business/Main Street bypasses in the Gloucester Court House area.
The intersections included in the analysis are:
--John Clayton Memorial Highway and Main Street;
--Access points for the Edgehill and Grace Hill Shopping Centers;
--Main Street and Roaring Springs Road;
--Main Street and Belroi Road;
--Main Street and Ware House Road;
--Main Street and T.C. Walker Road;
--Key driveways in the study area.
VDOT will hold a second meeting in connection with the study later in the year, the spokeswoman said. The study is expected to be completed in January 2013.
Thursday's meeting will be at Botetourt Elementary School with an open house from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A formal presentation will begin at 4:45 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.
