The Guinea Jubilee Committee of the Guinea Heritage Association is extending the invitation to artists and photographers to submit original works for the contest, said a spokeswoman for the organization. The selected entry will be used for the reproduction of the official Guinea Jubilee print.
The entry fee is $25 and the deadline to submit original works is June 16 at 5 p.m. Entries should be framed or matted and there is no limit to the size of the artwork.
The entries will be displayed at a location to be determined June 18 through July 7. The winning artist will be notified July 9 and will receive $750. The runner up and honorable mention will receive $100.
An artist reception and unveiling is scheduled for Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Abingdon Ruritan Club on Guinea Road.
The contest has no specific theme, but artists are encouraged to consider the Guinea area and culture, or the Guinea Jubilee, when creating their entry.
