HRT recently kicked off its first annual "Holiday Express" food drive and is requesting non-perishable food items. Drop-offs may be made on specified dates and times at various sites on the Peninsula and at the light rail stations across from Eastern Virginia Medical Center/Ft.
So far, the drive has raised an estimated 3,700 to 4,000 pounds of non-perishable food, according to Mary Lafontaine, of HRT.
When stopping to make a donation, look for the light rail train or bus decked out in "Holiday Express" graphics that depict an old-time steam locomotive.
