Lynyrd Skynyrd will headline a concert in Portsmouth on Sunday, Aug. 5, nTelos Wireless Pavilion officials announced Monday.
According to the news release from the pavilion, "the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame band last headlined a show in Portsmouth in 2007. Longtime local fans cheer the triple-lead guitar attack that’s sold more than 30 million albums on 60 releases. Their anthem “Sweet Home Alabama” is one of the most downloaded ring tones ever, with more than 2 million purchases.
Comprising the Lynyrd Skynyrd band today are "Gary Rossington, guitar; Johnny Van Zant, vocals; Rickey Medlock, guitar; Mark “Sparky” Matejka, guitar; Michael Cartellone, drums; Johnny Colt, bass; Peter Keys, keyboards; Dale Krantz, backing vocals; and Carol Chase, backing vocals.
"The band has a new CD being released on Aug. 21 called 'Last of a Dyin’ Breed.'
"Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m., Friday, June 29 through all Ticketmaster outlets, including (www.ticketmaster.com) and by phone (800-745-3000). Orchestra tickets are $55, Gold Circle 1 seats are $40, Gold Circle 2 seats are $25 and general admission Lawn tickets are $20, including service and facility fees. There is a $3 discount on Gold Circle 2 and Lawn tickets with military ID. Present your AAA Membership Card at the Box Office or Ticketmaster outlet and receive $3 off Gold Circle and Lawn tickets. Children 12 and younger are free on the lawn with a paid adult admission. Discounts cannot be combined.
