Born: May 1999. "Big props go out to Mike Behan," writes band founder Mitch "Bleu" Hines. "He was the general manager of Second Street bar in downtown Hampton who gave us the opportunity to come in and lay it down like champs! That was where Fine Swiss Cheese played its very first gig eight years ago to almost to date."
Home base: Hampton
-- Mitch "Bleu" Hines - bass, and vocals. Hines lives in Hampton and likes "fast cars, funky music with soul. Yes, funk is its own reward to all you funkateers out there!"
-- Javier Furniz - guitar and vocals. He lives in Newport News and is influenced by guitarists as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Jimi Hendrix.
-- Zack Smith - drums. Smith lives in Newport News. "Zack is rooted in the punk era but has incredible feel," Hines said.
-- Jimmy Marble - vocals. Jimmy lives in Newport News and loves Smooth R&B. "But don't let that fool you, 'cause he can belt out Rage Against the Machine with cold conviction, turn right around blow you away with some Marvin Gaye!" Hines said. Sounds like: Fine Swiss Cheese evolved into one of the area's most sought-after professional party bands. The group was voted cover band of the year four of the last six years in the local music poll now run by Port Folio Weekly. "It's hard to put a tag on what the band sounds like," Hines wrote. "It's not, 'What do they cover?' It's more like, 'What don't they cover?' " The band's setlist often includes hip-hop, Southern rock, alternative rock, R&B and disco.
Output: Fine Swiss Cheese is a live act exclusively.
Quote: "Thanks, Mom and Dad," wrote Hines.
Catch 'em: The SandBar in Newport News on J. Clyde Morris every Tuesday night. Also, Fine Swiss Cheese will play a Cinco de Mayo party May 5 at Saddle Ridge in Hampton. The show will double as a celebration for the band's eighth anniversary.
