The Peninsula Water Steward training was for 10 weeks with instructors from Virginia Insitute of Marine Science, Virginia Tech,
Water Stewards receive advanced training in sustainable environmental stewardship of our water resources so that they can contribute to their communities through demonstration sites and establishment of programs that instruct in landscape management techniques that conserve and protect our water resources.
Projects that have been completed include rain gardens and water conservation workshops. Other Water Stewards class' projects include helping to establish buffer zones around ponds and retention basins, developing programs to raise awareness of non-point pollution, monitoring
water quality though a community, developing a program to teach and solve a storm water erosion problem near an elementary school, and planning rain gardens.
