Pictures: Street Corner Intervention Team

Teresa Miller, 54, reflects on the community she's found on the street corners in the southeast Newport News community. Miller, who was an alcoholic 33 years ago, says she values the conversation and company at intersections like 32nd Street and Jefferson Avenue. She says she appreciates a new effort by Newport News Police to stop by the street corners and provide resources for substance abuse treatment and job placement. "I've seen a lot of people that used to hang on this corner perish just from boredom, loneliness, alcoholism, drug abuse, and it's like, where did everybody go?"
