Already an accomplished swimmer at the club level, York's MaryElizabeth Warhol added two more state high school championships to her list of accomplishments this winter.
Warhol won the 200-yard freestyle and repeated her 100 backstroke championship in the Group AA state meet.
"It's right up there," she said of her championships. "It was a chance to represent my high school, to represent York High School."
Warhol, who has signed with Auburn, also swims for the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins. While her high school team is her high school team, she said Blue Dolphins swimmers are like her family.
"It's the same group of people I've grown up with for 11 years," she said.
While swimming at the club level is more intense with tougher competition, Warhol approached high school swimming as a prelude to the next four years.
"I like to think of it as like college, where you swim dual meets," she said. "You just get out there and go as fast as you can."
She said her strongest strokes are the freestyle and backstroke, though in the recent Virginia Short Course Senior Championships she also placed in the 100 butterfly.
She's now winding down her short-court schedule and will start training for the summer long-course season before long. She'll swim her final meet in July, take some time off to spend with her family, then head for Auburn.
