The football teams at Warhill and Poquoson high schools both are dealing with injuries heading into their meeting on Friday at Poquoson Middle School, but Warhill seems to have the worst of it.
Warhill coach Billy Jarvis said that starting quarterback Seth Thompson will miss the game with turf toe. The Lions are already without starting RB/DB Reggie Lipscomb, who injured his ankle in the season opener on Aug. 24 at Park View.
Jarvis said that Lipscomb fractured the ankle and will miss at least several more weeks. In addition, starting defensive back Terrell Braxton will be unable to start against Poquson because the ankle he sprained at Park View is still sore.
The good news for the Lions is that Jarvis said Devonte Dedmon, perhaps the Bay Rivers District's most dynamic skill player when healthy, will be ready to go. Like Lipscomb and Braxton, Dedmon suffered a sprained ankle in the 20-17 win at Park View.
The good news for Poquoson is that freshman quarterback Trey Hicks' knee injury sustained in the 21-20 overtime win against Grafton on Saturday is just a bruise, and that he will be in uniform for the Warhill game. The bad news is that linebacker Richie Cannella, who starred in the season opening 20-0 win on Aug. 24 over Southampton, has a more serious knee injury sustained in the Grafton game, and could be out for the season.
Warhill upset Poquoson 13-7 a year ago, ending the Islanders 15-game win streak.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
