Saturday's local college basketball roundup: Hokies women's transfer debuts with 28 points in victory

What a Virginia Tech debut for Uju Ugoka.

The junior transfer from Lagos, Nigeria, and Gulf Coast State, playing her first game as a Hokie, scored 28 points to lead Tech (5-5) to a 73-52 victory over Wake Forest (5-6) before more than 4,000 people at Cassell Coliseum. It was the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Ugoka netted the most points ever by a Hokie in a home ACC game, snagged eight rebounds and had two steals. She came within one basket of tying the Cassell record for field goals (14).

"This is probably as good a game as played since I've been the coach here," Tech coach Dennis Wolff said.
