Saturday's local roundup (running, hockey): O'Reilly, Castillo-D'Amico run to Fort Eustis victories

Blaine O'Reilly of Williamsburg and Mercedes Castillo-D'Amico were the top overall finishers at the Fort Eustis 10K Saturday. O'Reilly was the men's winner in 33 minutes, 38 seconds, while Smithfield's Victor Flemming was second in 34:22.

D'Amico was the top female with a time of 41:53, and Yorktown's Crystal Witte was second in 42:30.

Ryan Potulny scored the game-winner with 46 seconds left in the third period to lift the Hershey Bears past the Norfolk Admirals 3-2 in Pennsylvania.

The Admirals (25-26-3-1) squandered an opportunity to narrow the gap between them and the eighth-place Connecticut Whale, which holds the final berth in the AHL's Eastern Conference. Norfolk has 54 points in 55 games, while the Whale has 59 in 56.

The Admirals twice took the lead, getting goals from Josh Brittain 3:20 into the game and Troy Bodie 2:32 into the final period.

Ryan Stoa pulled the Bears -- the Washington Capitals' top affiliate -- even with just 2:33 left in regulation by beating Igor Bobkov.

Hershey (27-21-3-5) is seventh in the conference.
