Area runners and jumpers went through their final tuneups Saturday before next week’s district indoor track and field meets.
No one from the Peninsula District won an event in the Atlantic Coast Indoor Invitational at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. But second-place finishers were Hampton’s Anton Moore in the boys long jump (21 feet, 6 1/2 inches), Chantal Ray of Hampton in the girls 55-meter hurdles (8.06) and Phoebus’ Charles Graham in the boys 55-meter hurdles (7.43).
Virginia Tech Invitational
Two PD athletes won events in the annual Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg.
Phoebus’ Carolyn Brown won the girls 55 meters and Warwick’s Ian Barrett won the boys 500. Grafton had both second-place finishers in the long jump, Nicholas Kurz and Caroline Beaudoin.
Anderson high on 55 lists
In a meet earlier this week, Heritage’s Asonya Anderson won the girls 55-meter dash in 6.97.
