Daily Press sports columnist David Teel was ranked in the top five in columns by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association for his column reflecting on Christian Laettner’s game-winning shot on its 20th anniversary.
He was joined in the top five by writers from the Washington Post, ESPN, CBSSports and the New York Times.
It’s the second time in as many years Teel has been honored by USBWA for column writing. He placed first last year for a blog entry on Teel Time about Ohio State AD Gene Smith having no business chairing the NCAA basketball committee.
In 2010, his profile of Duke’s Coach K was awarded second in magazine-length feature writing. Teel also has been in the top five in 2009 (column), 2003 (column and investigative/enterprise) and 2001 (investigative/enterprise and magazine-length feature).Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
