Before leaving for the event, Slattery said she would meet with numerous college coaches and called the tournament "the biggest of my life." She is a two-time Daily Press girls tennis Player of the Year -- for HRA this spring and for Warwick in 2010, when she was the state Group AAA singles runner-up.
Shannon Hudson of Virginia Beach is 5-1 in the event so far.
After winning her first two matches in Memphis, lost 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 64 to No. 1 seed Gabrielle Andrews of Pomona, Calif. But since then, the former state Group AAA champion from First Colonial High has won her first three consolation matches.
Hudson breezed past Shea Flanagan of Overland Park, Kan., 6-0, 6-2, then registered a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-3) upset of No. 12 Catherine Harrison of Germantown, Tenn.
Thursday, she stayed in the event by handling Davidson 7-5, 6-3.
