6What's the PD game of the week?

Kickoff comes Saturday at high noon, so you know it'll be stifling hot at Darling Stadium. And Hampton hosts Woodside in a battle of two teams with playoff hopes. Last year's game was a shootout: The Crabbers won 36-28.

7 What's the best rivalry game?

Two more teams with playoff aspirations are also going at it — Kecoughtan vs. Bethel. The Warriors hope to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2002, and beating the Bruins for the second year in a row would be a great start.

8 What about the new guy?

Juan Jackson, the only new coach in the district this season (Stan Sexton moved from Warwick to Phoebus), and his Raiders open Friday night against Menchville. With Booker T. Washington coming up next week, Warwick would love a 2-0 start heading into a Sept. 19 game vs. Phoebus.

9 Will the Phantoms skip a beat?

Taking over for longtime mentor Bill Dee, former Warwick coach Stan Sexton leads the defending state champs in their Thursday night opener vs. Gloucester. Based on how it looked in a scrimmage vs. Oscar Smith, Phoebus remains the team to beat.

10 Could Gloucester have a tougher start?

After opening against Phoebus on Thursday night, the Dukes will head back to Darling eight days later to face Hampton. Hey, why not get the district's best two teams (combined record in 2008: 25-2) out of the way early?
