Two free concert series at Fort Monroe will feature Slapwater, Army TRADOC Band

Many things will soon be changing at

Fort Monroe

, but for now, one will remain the same: the tradition of free, outdoor concerts on Thursday and Friday nights.

Music Under the Stars

, a 77-year tradition, will feature the Army


Band and guests playing each Thursday night through Aug. 25. Concerts take place at Continental Park next to the Chamberlin Hotel. Music starts at 7 p.m.

"This will be our farewell season at Fort Monroe," said Staff Sgt. Anthony Reosti, a spokesman for the band. "It's hard because everyone loves Fort Monroe, it's such a pretty venue."

June 9 -- 236th Army birthday and streamer ceremony  (82nd Airborne's All American Free Fall parachute team will float in starting at 6:40 p.m.)

Summerfest by the Bay

takes place Fridays 5 p.m. to midnight at Fort Monroe's beach, just behind the Bay Breeze Community Center, 490 Fenwick Road.
