A total of 230 pieces of art are on display at the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center's Gallery in recognition of March being Youth Art Month.

The artwork has been made by area students from Aberdeen Public, Roncalli and Northwestern schools.

Youth Art Month is an annual observance designed to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs and art education in the United States.

The ARCC's Youth Art Month exhibit contains drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, mosaics and more - all end products of lessons that teach art history, perspective, color theory, cultural histories, nature study, visual perception and more.

“Many pieces show amazing attention to details that many people miss in everyday observances of the world,” according to a news release. “Each piece is a testament to the progression of artistic process in various techniques.”

Students are in grades 1-12.

The show will run all month at the gallery, at 225 Third Ave. S.E. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

A public reception for the young artists will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 29. Light refreshments will be available, along with live music provided by area music students.
