‘Book of Mormon’ to hold lottery for $25 seats at Pantages

When the national tour of “The Book of Mormon” lands in Los Angeles in September, a lottery for $25 tickets is to be held two hours prior to each performance at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.

The Pantages announced on its website that lottery entries will be accepted at the box office starting 2 1/2 hours before each performance of the irreverent musical. Only one entry per person is allowed at each drawing, and each entry is good for up to two tickets at $25 apiece.

Names of the winners will be drawn two hours before curtain time. Winners are required to be present at the time of the drawing and to show valid identification to purchase the cash-only tickets.

“The Book of Mormon” is scheduled to run at the Pantages from Sept. 5. through Nov. 25 as part of a national tour. The lottery is set for each performance except for the Sept. 12 performance, which is the official gala opening night.

Performances of “The Book of Mormon” are scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays, plus matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. on Sundays.

The Pantages didn’t specify how many $25 tickets will be offered each day via the lottery system, except to say that only that a “limited” amount would be available.

The musical from the creators of “South Park” recently kicked off the national tour in Denver. The show opened on Broadway at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in spring 2011 and won nine Tony Awards including the prize for best musical.

The Broadway production offers a daily lottery drawing for tickets at $32 apiece.
