Ahmanson sells $25-per-ticket student subscriptions; parents can go for the same price

Students can get discounted tickets to “Into the Woods” and the musical adaptation of “Amelie” as part of Center Theatre Group’s newly launched Backstage Club, which lets kids 12 to 18 buy a three-show subscription to the Ahmanson Theatre for $75.

As a bonus, up to two guests older than 18 can join the student for $25 per performance. There are no ticket handling fees for the subscription, which includes orchestra and mezzanine seating as well as free ticket exchanges.

There is a Dec. 1 deadline to join the Backstage Club. Productions from the 2016-17 Ahmanson season included with the subscription are “Into the Woods,” “Amelie, A New Musical” and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” For an additional $25, students can add on the Tony-winning musical “Fun Home.”

Designated student meet-ups are a part of the deal as well. These allow students to participate in a pre-show meet-and-greet and Q&A with selected artists.

The Backstage Club joins other programs designed to help students to build a lifelong relationship with live performance. L.A. Opera 90012 is a program that provides a mini-subscription of four operas to a limited number of students in grades 7 to 12. Tickets to the performances and related talks are free for the student and an adult chaperone.
