Tony Manero's weekly escape in "Saturday Night Fever" is a local disco club where he can forget about the realities of his everyday life and just be the king of the dance floor. Captivated by Stephanie Mangano's dancing one night, Manero convinces her to be his partner in a dance contest, although she rejects his other advances. Based on the 1977 film, the musical glosses over some of the heavier themes contained in the movie such as issues around racism and violence. "Saturday Night Fever" premiered in London in 1998 and ran on Broadway from 1999 to 2000.
