There’s no need to stop the presses for this bit of Broadway foregone conclusion.

“Lucky Guy,” the Tony-nominated play written by the late Nora Ephron and starring Tom Hanks, has officially turned a profit, recouping its Broadway investment of $3.6 million, producers announced Thursday. The play opened at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York on April 1 and has extended its run to July 3.

“Lucky Guy” tells the story of journalist Mike McAlary (Hanks), who rose to prominence as a columnist at the New York Daily News. The cast includes Courtney B. Vance, Christopher McDonald, Maura Tierney and Hanks’ “Bosom Buddies” co-star Peter Scolari.

The play has multiple producers, including Colin Callender, the former president of HBO, as well as Broadway regulars Daryl Roth, Roy Furman, Robert Cole and Frederick Zollo.

(Zollo was a producer on the 1994 film “The Paper,” which was also set in the world of New York tabloid journalism. McAlary had a cameo in the movie.)

“Lucky Guy” has been nominated for six Tony Awards in categories including new play, actor (Hanks), director (George C. Wolfe) and featured actor (Courtney B. Vance).

The production is one of the top-grossing plays of the season, bringing in more than $1 million in weekly ticket sales since opening.
