Long-awaited ‘Prince of Broadway’ to debut in Japan
The stalled musical retrospective celebrating Broadway producer Harold Prince’s work has set yet another opening date and location -- and it’s far from New York.
The twice-postponed “Prince of Broadway” will open in Japan in 2015, with plans to transfer to Broadway the following year, the New York Times reports.
The show was initially scheduled to open in Toronto ahead of a 2012 Broadway debut. Another Broadway premiere planned for this fall was called off in March.

Despite Prince’s credits, which include “West Side Story,” “Follies” and “Cabaret,” two sets of producers have failed to raise the funds for the show’s expected $13-million budget, according to the Times.
Theater owners and producers, some of whom have earned money from Prince’s productions, have declined to invest, saying the price tag is too high to recoup the costs.
“Prince of Broadway” will follow Prince’s 60-year career while spotlighting popular songs from shows that the 21-time Tony winner produced or directed.
