Santa Monica Museum of Art receives grant from Warhol Foundation
The Santa Monica Museum of Art has received a $121,500 grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for an upcoming exhibit exploring art and legislation.
“Citizen Culture: Artists and Architects Shape Policy” will go on display in fall 2014 and will examine how public art throughout the Americas can act as an agent for social change.
Curated by Lucía Sanromán, the show will feature works by Laurie Jo Reynolds, who led Tamms Year Ten, a grassroots campaign to close the supermax prison in Illinois.

“Artists are uniquely qualified to change law and policy. We know how to attempt the impossible, fail grandly and start over,” Reynolds said in a statement.
Since 2000, the Warhol Foundation has contributed more than $500,000 to the museum.
From 2006 to 2011, Sanromán served as the associate curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego where she organized “Jennifer Steinkamp: Madame Curie” and “Here Not There: San Diego Art Now,” among other shows.
