'Off the Record: A Listening Party'

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events' vinyl recordings listening series, "Off the Record: A Listening Party," is happening because, in case you didn't know, vinyl is still cool. The series will feature new recordings (some unreleased), members of the band performing live and an interactive activity (Q-and-A's, live podcasts, group discussions, DJs and more). Why go: Saturday's artists will be the ONES, performing from the band's "Shift" album, and Natural Information Society, with Joshua Abrams on guimbri and Lisa Alvarado on harmonium. A Q-and-A follows each performance. Reconsider: You'll wait for the Jan. 28 series with Brokeback, performing from its upcoming Thrill Jockey release, "Brokeback & the Black Rock." (Also includes reception and Thrill Jockey DJs.) 8-11 p.m. Saturday at Logan Center for the Arts, Penthouse Room, 915 E. 60th St.; and 7-9 p.m. Jan. 28 at saki, 3716 W. Fullerton Ave.; free; cityofchicago.org/dcase
