Before Zach Gilford and his fiancee, Kiele Sanchez, went to check out the gift suites in the Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday, the self-deprecating “Friday Night Lights” star and Evanston native, who is currently filming Fox's “The Mob Doctor” in Chicago, politely excused himself from our conversation in the hotel's It's So Miami Oasis.
“Sorry,” said Gilford, fully aware he would be asked to pose for promotional photos with the products he was picking up. “I need to go whore myself out.”
Gilford was one of many celebrities in Chicago this weekend, most for the three-day Lollapalooza music festival in Grant Park. And like several other bold-face names, he took full advantage of his fame and the free swag that often comes with it. Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) visited the gift suites Friday and walked away with a new Motorola phone before going to watch The Black Keys headline at Lollapalooza. Rapper B.o.B and actress Rose McGowan (“Charmed”) picked up Motorola phones Saturday.
The Hard Rock Hotel's CK One-sponsored Rock the Vote Nights party on Friday also featured celebrity guests, including “American Idol” alum Haley Reinhart, who performed at the party, E! fashion correspondent Kelly Osbourne, who sat in a guarded area of the VIP lounge, and actor Michael Pena (“Crash”), who talked to anyone who approached him.
Lollapalooza 2010 headliner Lady Gaga — rumored to be dating Taylor Kinney, who is currently filming “Chicago Fire” in the city — dined at Girl and the Goat on Friday and Spiaggia with Kinney Sunday. Comedian Dave Chappelle watched rapper Talib Kweli DJ at The Shrine on Friday and then hung out at The Underground afterward. The former “Chappelle's Show” host, who was in Chicago to perform at the House of Blues on Sunday, returned to The Underground on Saturday with Kweli, who deejayed the Rock the Vote Nights party earlier that night.
McGowan stopped by the party Saturday before briefly heading to Paris Club's upstairs lounge, Studio Paris — where Lollapalooza headliner Avicii was spinning — The Underground and Board Room. She dined at Sunda earlier that night, while her “Scream” co-star, David Arquette, on hand for Lollapalooza for the third year in a row, opted for food at Paris Club.
Joe Manganiello (“True Blood,” “Magic Mike”) had dinner at Paris Club on Thursday and then headed upstairs to Studio Paris, which is where Alison Brie (“Community”) and rumored boyfriend Dave Franco (“21 Jump Street”) were hanging out. Manganiello had lunch Friday at Hub 51 before taking in the Die Antwoord performance at Lollapalooza.
“First time seeing @DieAntwoord live today,” tweeted Manganiello, who dined at RPM Italian later that night. “They absolutely killed it … insanity!!! #TotallyObsessed.”
Jenny McCarthy had dinner at RPM Italian on Saturday and braved the heat when she hung out earlier that day at the Gilt City-sponsored Better Than Backstage Rooftop Pool Party at the EnV Apartments, which featured a performance by Of Monsters and Men. Jessica Szohr (“Gossip Girl”) was spotted Saturday at Hub 51, the Rolling Stone Rock Room party at Studio Paris — which included a performance by Karmin — and The Underground.
I saw Food Network star Guy Fieri gladly posing for photos with patrons Saturday afternoon at Angels & Kings in the Hard Rock Hotel. “Mob Wives Chicago” cast member Pia Rizza sat in a booth nearby and told me she likely will know in the next two weeks whether there will be a second season of the VH1 reality show. Rizza also watched Cee Lo Green perform Thursday at the Soul Electronics-sponsored party in the Hard Rock. Green, who heard some boos during his Lollapalooza set last year, was putting on a much better show this time around but abruptly ended it with one song left because he said there was an equipment malfunction. Earlier in the day, Green had lunch at Manny's Cafeteria & Delicatessen in the South Loop.
Lollapalooza headliner Jack White ordered the fried chicken and waffles at Table Fifty-Two on Sunday. Members of the indie band Passion Pit had dinner at N9NE Steakhouse on Thursday, and members of The Gaslight Anthem dined at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse on Saturday. Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke deejayed Saturday at Crimson Lounge in Hotel Sax. Dougy Mandagi didn't perform with his The Temper Trap bandmates Saturday at Lollapalooza due to the rainout, but he did DJ with Chris Kennedy (aka "Malcolm in the Middle" actor Chris Masterson) at Nellcote.
Lollapalooza founder and Jane's Addictionsinger Perry Farrell dined at Nellcote on Wednesday. I also spotted him Friday leaving Paris Club, clearly one of the biggest winners of the weekend, after Farrell had dinner there with his wife in a private room. Farrell told the crowd at Saturday's Jane's Addiction show at the Aragon Ballroom that he “had the best meal ever last night at Paris Club.”
