Ernst Lubitsch’s enchanting 1943 comedy-fantasy “Heaven Can Wait” was the filmmaker’s first film in Technicolor. Nominated for three Academy Awards, including best film and director, “Heaven” stars Don Ameche as newly deceased cad who recounts his life to Satan (a terrific Laird Cregar). Gene Tierney and Charles Coburn also star in the picture, which has been beautifully restored by the Academy Film Archive and 20th Century Fox in collaboration with the Film Foundation. The restoration will have its West Coast premiere Monday at the Linwood Dunn Theater. Before the screening, there will a 25th-anniversary celebration of the Film Foundation.
