Comic-Con 2018: Freebie Taco Bell to pop up in Gaslamp steakhouse

Share

Taco Bell fans can take a free trip into the future this weekend when the “Demolition Man” experience pops up at Greystone Steakhouse & Seafood in the Gaslamp Quarter for Comic-Con weekend.

From Thursday through Saturday, the no-badge-required event will temporarily turn the upscale steakhouse into a futuristic version of Taco Bell, where all of the food will be served to the public for free.

The pop-up celebrates the 25th anniversary of the movie “Demolition Man.”

For those not familiar with the 1993 sci-film starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and Sandra Bullock, the action takes place in 2032, where “franchise wars” have wiped out all of America’s restaurants except Taco Bell. The Taco Bell featured in the film is a fine-dining restaurant with artful tortilla chip tapas plates and cocktails.

For this week’s pop-up, Greystone will replace its wine sommelier with a soft drink dispenser and its filet mignons with Nacho Fries.

Greystone/Taco Bell 2032 will be open for service from 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday, serving upscale variations on regular Taco Bell fare. There will also be “Demolition Man” merchandise available for sale. Long lines should be expected.

Greystone Steakhouse & Seafood is at 658 Fifth Ave., San Diego.
