‘The Hangover Part III’ rules DVD and Blu-ray sales charts

The Wolf Pack is taking a bite out of the home entertainment market.

“The Hangover Part III,” the final installment of the trilogy starring Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, was the top-selling DVD and Blu-ray title in its first week in release, according to Rentrak.

The film grossed more than $112 million domestically at the box office and $351 million worldwide, which is less than each of the first two “Hangover” movies made.

“Part III” was a departure from its predecessors because it emphasized its action-thriller elements. It didn’t fare well with critics. The movie generated a 19% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Hangover” unseats the previous week’s bestseller, the DreamWorks-produced and Fox-distributed “Croods,” now ranked No. 2, ahead of the new Diamond Edition of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” a package that includes the film’s first Blu-ray version.

“This Is the End,” the apocalyptic comedy directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, was the top rental.
