The fourth and final “Hunger Games” film launched with a strong $16 million in ticket sales from Thursday night preshows, but it didn’t fly quite as high as the last two movies in the Jennifer Lawrence series.

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1” scored $17 million in its Thursday opening last year, while 2013’s “Catching Fire” took in about $25 million.

Analysts expect “Mockingjay -- Part 2” to gross $120 million or more in the U.S. and Canada through Sunday, which would be about in line with “Part 1’s” opening.

The film is off to a robust start internationally, with $43 million in box-office receipts from 68 countries. It opens in 19 more markets, including China and Mexico, on Friday.
