New York Yankee closer Mariano Rivera's last All-Star game appearance may have been bad news for the National League, but it did little to boost ratings for the midsummer classic.
Without Rivera, the numbers could have been lower. The audience peaked in the bottom of the 8th inning, when Rivera took the mound and quickly retired the side. Rivera is set to retire at the end of this season.
By market, Detroit had the highest rating for the pitching duel. Detroit Tiger Max Scherzer and New York Met Matt Harvey were starting pitchers. Tiger manager Jim Leyland also managed the American League squad.
