Hitting the wrong note. The song "Alone Yet Not Alone" from the movie of the same name was stripped of its Oscar nomination by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences because of lobbying by the tune's writer, Bruce Broughton. A member of the academy's music branch executive committee and a former AMPAS governor, Broughton committed the no-no of emailing other members about his nomination during the voting period. "Using one's position as a former governor and current executive committee member to personally promote one's own Oscar submission creates the appearance of an unfair advantage," said academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs.
