“American Idol” propelled Fox to a ratings win Wednesday night as network competitors mostly aired reruns, but CBS’ “Survivor” was the loudest-singing show, according to early numbers from Nielsen.

“Idol,” the veteran musical contest now in its 13th season, drew 8.4 million viewers overall and scored a rating of 1.9 among key 18- to 49-year-olds, down 5% from last week. With “Idol” its only prime time offering, Fox was the night’s highest-rated network, while second-place CBS earned a 1.6.

CBS’ “Survivor: Cagayan” averaged 9.3 million viewers and a rating of 2.2 in 18-49 for the nightly win, though it was down 8% week-to-week in the demo. “Criminal Minds” and “CSI” were repeats.
