TV ratings: NBC wins night with falling NFL numbers; ‘Amazing Race’ up

Sunday night’s NFL match-up between the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins didn’t draw nearly as many viewers as last week’s big Patriots-Broncos game, but it still won the night for NBC in the key 18-49 demographic, according to early numbers from Nielsen.

From 8:30-11 p.m., the game drew an average of 15.4 million viewers overall and earned a rating of 5.4 in the key demo, where a ratings point equals about 1.3 million viewers. Those numbers are not adjusted for time zones and are likely to change, but as it stands now, the rating is down by 39% from the preliminary number for last week’s game.

The showdown, in which the Giants beat the Redskins 24-17, was the top-rated telecast on the major networks Sunday night. Statistics for AMC’s ratings beast “Walking Dead” will come out later Monday.

CBS had an NFL game run into prime time, so the figures for its entertainment lineup are likely off. Still, “The Amazing Race” looks like it jumped to its biggest audience for the season in its second-to-last episode, with an average of 10.4 million viewers. “The Good Wife’s” 100th episode also looks like it increased its ratings, up by around 23% from last week to a 1.6.

ABC had “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” which slipped 14% to a 1.2, while “Once Upon a Time” held steady with last week’s 1.9. The network also aired the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie “Christmas in Conway,” which drew a 1.0 in the demo and 6.4 million viewers overall, not as strong as last year’s telecast of “Christmas With Holly,” another Hall of Fame film.

Fox’s only originals were “Bob’s Burgers,” off by 16% from last week to a 1.6, and “American Dad,” down 11% to a 1.7.
