The initiative, which consists of weekday episodes that span one minute, kicks off today on the social media platform.
The initiative stands as the first-ever daily newscast on social media hosted by an evening news anchor.
Titled "Facecast: The One Thing," the concise newscasts will be shot at ABC News headquarters in New York City and will recap the top stories of the day, including breaking news, politics, sports and other trending topics.
"We are grateful that our audience engages with David Muir and World News Tonight on social media all day long," said "World News Tonight" executive producer Almin Karamehmedovic in a statement. "We're very excited to launch a newscast that is exclusively for Facebook, where users can continue the conversation beyond the evening newscast at any time."
The newscast can be viewed either through people's newsfeeds (if someone has "liked" the "World News Tonight" Facebook page or if a friend shares the video) or directly from the "World News Tonight" Facebook page.
Episodes will be posted prior to the telecast of the evening newscast.
Andy Mitchell, who serves as director of news and global media partnerships for Facebook, pointed to the growing presence of video on the social media platform as an opportunity to engage with viewers on the go.
"A newscast produced for the mobile use case is a great way to leverage Facebook's platform and engage people in the journalism ABC News is known for," Mitchell said in a statement.
