The Emmys' best dressed: Kerry Washington is sure to please

Emmy winners? We're betting Kerry Washington will shine on the red carpet
Julia Louis-Dreyfus should look great at the Emmys

The Emmys are less than a week away, and here at All the Rage we're already obsessing over who will look the best on the red carpet.

Fashion Critic Booth Moore pointed out earlier this week that Emmy nominee Julia Louis-Dreyfus, up for lead actress in a comedy series for her role in "Veep,"  is reliably well-turned out season after season.

And so is Kerry Washington, a contender for lead actress in a drama series for her role as Olivia Pope in "Scandal." Washington always seems attuned to what is right for the occasion, and she's a real student of fashion, Moore wrote in a profile of the actress last year.

So though I can't begin to predict the outcome of their Emmy races, I do feel confident in concluding that Washington and Louis-Dreyfus will both be winners on the red carpet come Monday.

For mere mortals, it's hard to watch events like the prime-time Emmys — coming up Aug. 25 — without wondering if it would ever be possible to look as pulled together as the stars. After all, who has the resources of these celebrated women?

It can be a fine line, and a point of much awards-season engineering, to draw the distinction between a supporting performance and a lead. For a role to be placed in the supporting category by no means diminishes its importance to a story or the challenge for the performer in the part.
