Emmys 2014: Ty Burrell, Bryan Cranston among the best-dressed men at the 2014 Emmys
For the most part the men on the Emmys red carpet played it safe on Monday – and that’s a good thing. Among the sartorial standouts on the guy’s side? Ty Burrell, who won supporting actor in a comedy series, was also a winner in a custom tuxedo (a collaboration between the actor, stylist Ilaria Urbinati and fashion designer Todd Snyder) in a shade of “dusk” blue that split the difference between navy blue and black.
Other sartorial standouts included Bryan Cranston in a Ralph Lauren Black Label traditional notch lapel tuxedo, accessorized with a crisply folded pocket square and rakish mustache. What really made him stand out? The way the tux fit him absolutely perfectly. (Other nominees – and any man thinking of donning a tux – should take note.)
Other honorable mentions in the best-dressed boys bunch: “Game of Thrones” actor Kit Harington, who accessorized his man bun with an Emporio Armani black one-button, peak lapel tuxedo; and Matt Bomer in a black satin shawl collar tuxedo and Jon Hamm, both in Tom Ford.
Matthew McConaughey, who has looked more than alright, alright, alright at past awards shows, was a rare miss in his three-piece Dolce & Gabbana ensemble of a blue tuxedo jacket and blue vest, black dress shirt, black bow tie and two-tone peak lapel that was black on the bottom and blue above the peaks. At least he was a miss in comparison to his tux-clad Emmy brethren -- and we’re grading on a curve, right? (Although he gets points for kind-of/sort-of matching with Woody Harrelson – they looked like two best friends who shopped together before going to the prom stag.)
And, although we’d always err on the side of overdressing instead of under-dressing, Kevin Spacey’s Ralph Lauren Purple Label black tuxedo tailcoat with a white pique vest, white shirt, white formal shirt and white pique bow tie was possibly a wee bit too formal.
