The event: Meryl Streep, Rosamund Pike, Laura Dern and more than 30 other female Oscar nominees packed into Hyde Sunset Kitchen + Cocktails in West Hollywood on Friday for one of the weekend’s most congenial affairs. Women in Film’s eighth annual Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party honored the “artistry of women” and celebrated the achievements of this year’s female contenders, both in front of and behind the camera.

The crowd: Co-hosted by Oscar winners Jennifer Hudson, supporting actress for “Dream Girls” (2006), and Cathy Schulman, president of Women in Film, Los Angeles, and producer of best picture winner “Crash” (2004), the party brought together all sorts of famous faces. The nominees were identifiable by their white corsages.

Spotted socializing were Carmen Ejogo, Elle Fanning, Lake Bell, Peter Fonda, Michelle Monaghan, Jamie Chung, Kate Walsh, and Patti LuPone.

Other attendees included Cathleen Sutherland, Bonnie Arnold, Rory Kennedy, Aneta Kopacz, Daisy Jacobs, Becky Sullivan, Anna Pinnock, Kristina Reed, Dana Perry, Danielle Brisebois, Mihal Brezis, Tatiana Macdonald, Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou, Ellen Goosenberg Kent, Helen Estabrook, Talkhon Hamzavi and Diane Warren, among others.

The scene: On spotting Warren, Hudson made a beeline for the seven-time Oscar songwriting nominee, giving her a quick but enthusiastic hug before departing to rehearse for Sunday’s telecast.

“If she isn’t there in exactly 15 minutes, the Oscars won’t even happen,” said Schulman, just before Hudson made her exit.

Streep arrived just as official remarks ended, but easily in time for a group shot of the female nominees together. Not surprisingly, a crowd soon gathered around for snapshots and conversations.

Quote of note: “I just want to say it is such an honor to be here among so many amazing women,” Hudson said and then suggested the women give themselves a hand. “It’s been so inspiring. That’s one of my most favorite things about what I do. It’s being surrounded by people who are passionate about what they do, and are doing what they love. … So continue to keep up your amazing work. You inspire each and every one of us.”
