With temperatures peaking in the mid-70s in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, it was downright cool on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards. Compared with last year, that is, when it was so hot that multiple people actually fainted outside the Nokia Theatre and stars had their pricey gowns and tuxedos tainted by sweat stains.
"It was 100 degrees last year -- do you remember that?" "Girls" star Allison Williams recalled before the show this weekend, her complexion free from any perspiration. "It was so horrible. All the interviews were really short. Everyone was like, 'You look fine. Keep walking.'"
Under the comfort of a newly erected sun shade, most celebrities seemed at ease as they posed for the shutterbugs on Sunday.
Of course, posing for the cameras was old hat for many of the nominees, like "The Good Wife" star Julianna Margulies, who has been to the show nearly a dozen times since 1995. Instead of fretting about fitting into her Reed Krakoff dress, she spent her morning throwing back a few glasses of champagne with friends and walking outside with her husband.
"Is that awful?" she said with a smile. "Shouldn't I say that I went to the gym and didn't eat?"
"Game of Thrones" star Kit Harrington was similarly laid back. His ultra-glam routine pre-show? "Just run some stuff through [my hair]. Jump in the suit. They put a bit of slap on me and I'm done."
